The Difference Between Minimally Invasive Surgery And Conventional Surgery

Sep. 20, 2022

Minimally invasive surgery is a technique that allows the surgeon to operate without causing a large wound to the patient, mainly through endoscopy and various imaging techniques. The branch of medical science that performs surgical operations such as inactivation, resection, repair or reconstruction of lesions, deformities and wounds in the human body to achieve therapeutic purposes, characterized by significantly less trauma to the patient than the corresponding traditional surgical operations.

history

The term minimally invasive surgery was coined by a British doctor in 1984 and mentioned in a contribution to the British Medical Journal in 1987. Early minimally invasive surgery specifically referred to laparoscopic surgery, because at that time only open surgery could be replaced by minimally invasive surgery. It was only later, when minimally invasive surgery became widespread, that it was expanded to other areas of surgery. As for the first laparoscopic surgery, it was done by a French doctor in 1987 by accident, but he had no idea it would mark a new medical milestone.

The benefit of minimally invasive surgery is that the wound is very small and the patient's recovery time can be greatly reduced.

characteristics

Take LC(minimally invasive surgery for gallbladder polyps), which has become the most mature "gold standard", as an example :LC incision is about 1cm, does not cut muscle, abdominal breathing recovery is early, beautiful, postoperative abdominal movement and feeling almost no impact, pulmonary complications are far lower than transabdominal cholecystectomy. At the same time, the operation time is short, about 30-60 minutes on average, intestinal peristalsis recovery is fast, eat early, basically do not need painkillers.

The operation process

Laparoscopic surgery:

The basic procedure is: After the patient is anesthetized, the doctor makes three to four small holes, about 0.5 centimeters in diameter, in the abdominal wall. A tiny camera is placed in one of the holes. Connected to a TV screen with a tiny camera. Scissors, forceps and other surgical instruments are put into the other holes in the abdominal wall. The operation process is basically the same as open surgery. The doctor looks at the screen to clamp, cut, suture and other operations on the diseased tissue. Finally, the lumps are cut up in plastic bags and removed, or removed directly from the vagina.

Hysteroscopic surgery:

Hysteroscopic surgery: Hysteroscopic surgery works differently from laparoscopy. During the procedure, the doctor puts a hysteroscopy (tiny camera) through the patient's vagina and cervical canal after anesthesia, which can determine the location, size, appearance and extent of the lesion. At the same time, the fluid is injected into the uterine cavity to enlarge the uterine cavity. The doctor then looks at the screen and performs the procedure through the instruments of the hysteroscope

Comparison of traditional surgery and minimally invasive surgery:

Taking nasopharyngeal carcinoma resection as an example, before minimally invasive surgery, nasopharyngeal carcinoma resection is a very important operation, and the whole operation takes more than half a day. Doctors OFTEN NEED TO PERFORM "FACELIFT" SURGERY TO MAKE A LARGE OPENING IN THE NECK AND REMOVE PART OF THE JAW TO EXPOSE THE AFFECTED AREA BEFORE REMOVING THE TUMOUR. The procedure requires multiple skin grafts to cover the tissue that has been removed. But since minimally invasive surgery, doctors can remove the tumor endoscopically BY cutting a small hole in the neck and sticking a catheter and lighting device into the area.

The medical instruments required for minimally invasive surgery mainly include: Puncture outfit, electric coagulation scissors, nano silver trauma surgery, catheter sheath group, the bipolar electric condenser, pneumoperitoneum machine, contact with wound dressings, minimally invasive puncture outfit, disposable surgical pack, disposable surgical drapes, disposable medical absorbent cotton ball, sterile gloves and tissue forceps, one-time use paper tape, even hair stapling, one-time use electronic pump, minimally invasive cervical spine retractor, soft tissue rivet with line of hand tools , visible outside the abdominal cavity dilator, disposable treatment for bags, disposable lumen line cutting anastomat and components, minimally invasive spine surgery tools, endoscopic camera, soft tissue with rivets, operation tablecloth,, minimally invasive urethra suspension system, minimally invasive spine surgery tools, pliers, general cavity mirror nail cutting anastomat and warehouse components, disposable treatment Auxiliary kit, electrosurgical detector, microknife needle forceps, disposable compound medical dressing, minimally invasive surgical instrument set for ligament release, self-adhesive wound pad, ring breaker, etc
